Lead Project Engineer

Austin, TX or Denver, CO – Full-time Position

JA Wastewater specializes in permitting, design, and construction oversight of decentralized wastewater treatment solutions.  We work with landowners, MUDS, developers, developer engineers, private companies, and utility companies to provide solutions for wastewater treatment in areas not able to tie into a municipal system.

JA Wastewater is looking for a lead project engineer for the crucial role in the planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects.  Expected salary range between $80,000 – $120,000 depending on experience.

Position Summary
  • Permitting and design of decentralized wastewater water treatment facilities in Texas (primary focus is Texas, however, experience in other states is beneficial)
    • Responsible for TLAP and TPDES permit applications for submittal to the TCEQ
    • Responsible for reuse authorizations for Type I and II beneficial reuse applications
 
  • Proven ability to collaborate with the design team from conception through final design
    • Ability to work with the team to determine optimal treatment solution based on influent conditions, effluent requirements, operator requirements, budget, etc.
    • Determine optimal effluent discharge solution
    • Determine and work with treatment component manufacturers and other vendors as appropriate to develop decentralized wastewater treatment solution
    • Determine optimal sludge management solutions
    • Design of complete wastewater treatment facilities including all treatment components
    • Design of effluent discharge systems including re-use options
    • Coordinate and manage sub-consultants including electrical, structural, controls, HVAC and other engineers as needed
    • Develop and manage a project schedule (from inception through construction phase)
    • Develop engineering reports per TCEQ rules and regulations
    • Prepare an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost
    • Allow for provisions in the design to implement multi-phases of flows
    • Ability to design other components associated with decentralized WWTF including lift stations, sludge management solutions, equalization and effluent storage systems, intake structures, outfall structures, etc.
 
  • Ability to manage bid phase of a design project
    • Prepare project manual incorporating bid and contract documents
    • Assist client during the bidding process
    • Analyze bids and make recommendations on selected GC
 
  • Ability to provide construction phase services
    • Coordination between GC, vendor, owner, etc.
    • Response to RFIs
    • Review and approve submittals including shop drawings, cut sheets, etc.
    • Coordinate and oversee production of Operation and Maintenance Manuals
    • Attend start-up and commissioning following plant construction

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience
  • EIT or Professional (PE) license
  • Proven experience as a project engineer in decentralized wastewater treatment
  • Experience with various process technologies including MBR, activated sludge, SBR, MBBR, etc.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Ability to collaborate with a design team
  • Familiarity with TCEQ regulations
  • Understanding of biological treatment processes, digesters, etc.
  • Effective Communicator with company staff, TCEQ staff, vendors, and clients
  • Must have experience using the following:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.)
    • Bluebeam
